Frequently Asked Questions
In
case of trouble:
1) Make sure you have the latest version (0.2.0.82)
2)
Study the Help File FAQ.
3)
Try shutting down your computer completely
and
restarting it before running the program again.
Q:
I have installed TV2003EDIT, but when I try to run it I get an
error message. What to do?
A:
An educated guess is that your system doesn't agree with our predefined
hotkeys. You probably have another program running that has already
hogged one or more of the hotkeys. We have reports from a user
who had a similar problem because of his ICQ program, until he
disabled some of ICQ's hotkeys.
There are two things you can do to diagnose the conflict:
1)
Try running the TitleVision program with everything else disabled.
Close all visible programs and after that press Ctrl-Alt-Delete
and remove all tasks except Systray and Explorer.
OR:
2)
Try and move the file named DEFAULT (no extension) in the subdirectory
DATA in your Titlevision folder temporarily somewhere else (eg.
your desktop) and run the TV2003Edit program again. If the program
runs, it is one or more of the hotkey definitions that is the
problem.
If
this is the case, you must either change the conclicting hotkey
definition in the other program (whatever THAT program is) or
disable one or more hotkey definitions in DEFAULT - which is a
simple text file - with a text editor (eg Notepad). You disable
a line by putting a semicolon (;) in front of it. When you have
located the conflicting line(s), remove it/them for good and redefine
the missing hotkey(s) under Setup/Keyboard Configuration in the
main program or just change it/them manually in DEFAULT.
Known troublemakers
are these lines:
SetupVideoSource=Num
-
FormatGlobalcheck=Num +
FormatToggleEmdash=Alt+-
So
you may start by disabling those first.
If
all this is unfamiliar territory, don't despair! Just send us
an e-mail, and we
shall do our utmost to help you.
Q: How
do I see which version I have?
A:
Open the TitleVision folder and right click on the TV2003EDIT.EXE
icon and choose the Version tab.
Q:
How do I perform a complete uninstallation of the TitleVision
software?
A:
In two steps:
- Delete
the Registry key HKLM/SOFTWARE/TITLEVISION and its subkeys
- Delete
the TitleVision folder
Q:
Why do I get the error message "Invalid filename" each time the
program tries to autosave?
A: You have probably configured the program to autosave in
a nonexistent directory. Check setup/preferences/variable settings.
Q:
Why does the system crash when I try to open a text file?
A:
The *.txt extension is used for a lot of different text formats.
A readable subtitle file has to be formatted according to certain
rules. See "Creating a Text File from Scratch" in the
help file for details.
Q: When
I try and open a pac file made on your system on my PU2020 system
the italics are not recognized. Why not?
A:
The pac files are saved in PU2000 format. Please check the "Setup/Preferences/File
Settings/Import and export Pac or Rac files in PU2020 format"
option.
Q: I have
a file in one of the accepted formats and I can't open it. Why
not?
A:
Maybe it was made on a third party system - who knows? Anyway,
should you encounter this problem, please e-mail
the file to TitleVision (we'll want it anyway for analysis),
and we'll return a readable file for you ASAP.
Q: The
keyboard shortcuts don't work and I can't run the help file! What's
going on?
A: The
program probably has a wrong path in the registration base. Choose
"Run" from the Windows Start menu, write "Regedit"
, click "okay" and choose the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Titlevision,
locate the key called "path" and change it to your TitleVision
path, eg. C:\programs\titlevision.
Q: I accidentally
deleted the menu bar. How do I get it back?
A:
Close TV2003, Run regedit.exe, locate the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Titlevision,
highlight the subfolder "Toolbars" and delete it (including its
subfolders). Run TV2003 again, and the menu bar is back.
